“The appearance of Jesus’ face changed, and his clothes became dazzling white (Luke 9:29).”
Feeling overwhelmed by life’s challenges? This sermon, delivered on the Sunday before Lent, focuses on the Transfiguration of Jesus as described in the Luke’s gospel and the Epistle of 2 Peter. Just like the disciples on the mountaintop, we can find moments of divine illumination and transformation. This Lent, join us at St Barnabas as we journey towards Easter, exploring the rich traditions of Anglo-Catholic worship and discovering how faith can bring light to our own lives. Experience the power of scripture, the sacraments, music, and community to guide you through darkness and towards the “Daystar” within.
A Call to Action: Draw on the Light of Christ during dark times.
Peter James and John were on an emotional roller coaster as they climbed the mountain with Jesus to pray. The Transfiguration of Jesus as described in the the 9th chapter of Luke’s gospel, and the Epistle of 2 Peter proved to be a great comfort in the difficult days ahead. The emotional and mental struggles facing the disciples parallel those experienced in the present moment owing to political and economic uncertainty. The promises of scripture, the sacraments, music and past experiences of Jesus’ presence can illuminate and transform, even in times of darkness. It highlights the message of 2 Peter, urging believers to look towards the “illumination of God’s future glory” as revealed in the Transfiguration, and how this event, through the Holy Spirit and scriptures, can lead to personal transformation and a deeper connection with the divine.
